I recommend these titles for my bookish and dedicated dog guardian clients. These are all books I have completely read. An easy and informative read that explains and provides examples of positive reinforcement and why this method of teaching is so powerful.
Don’t be fooled by the cuteness of this book. It’s a super educational resource for dog lovers of all ages. I gift these to my clients.
A great primer on dog parks and different types of dog personalities you and your pup may encounter in that social setting. And more importantly, if a dog park is a good fit for your pup.
Another book that seems easy to dismiss as not serious because it is illustrated. It is packed full of great information for all dog parents, whether first-time or serial. Great for all ages.

Insightful read on how to prepare for and introduce your dog to the new family member written by a professional dog trainer who went through this personally!
An illustrated and fun book about dog breeds including the history of modern dogs and breed types.
Poetry
Lovely collection of poems. Each one took me on an unexpected journey that somehow involved a dog, sometimes at the beginning, sometimes in the middle, and sometimes at the end. Also available through the Contra Costa County Public Library.

The original cat behavior bible and still relevant and informative.
An updated cat bible by the self titled, “Cat Daddy,” Jackson Galaxy. He has a great Youtube channel for all things cat. Also available through the Contra Costa County Public Library.
